Boardmod is not a bad tool, asking folk to move files from folder to folder will lead to confusion and additional support requests.

It would be better to let it convert the yabb2 files and add additional instructions how to modify yabbfiles.
If we make it any harder to operate folk will chose other software due to ease of adding mods.

Just to add I can get by using Boardmod, can others who are looking for an easy life?

Can A mod file be written in a way that would make Boardmod go up one level of the folder structure then to the yabbfiles folder. Ex: ..\yabbfiles or whatever.

I always wanted to try this but never think about it when I'm at the computer. I'm usually on my phone when I think about it, like right now Cheesy

phpBB has automod, something similar to Boardmod.

Either that you can open a mod file in XML and copy and paste the edits. SMF has it,s package manager which is great when it works. Westwegoman is bang on, if you can get Boardmod to convert yabbfiles as well we are on the money  Cool

At least the fix-mod WORKS. (And I know what mistakes I made so they shouldn't happen again.) It's BoardMod that needs help.

Maybe a better way of handling the fixes to the css is to simply give instructions on how to make those particular changes through the Admin Center.

I'm also wondering if what would happen if we copied the whole cgi-bin and the whole yabbfiles folder into the BoardMod convert folder (that one you make) and adjusted the paths accordingly. (But that may be confusing to other BoardMod users.)

In the meantime:

Who wants to write up an excruciatingly detailed 'Guide to Using BoardMod' that we can add as a Read-Me to the zip file? (While using BoardMod is fresh in our minds?)

BTW - who needs XML for this?  A good text-editor is all I usually use  Grin.

I have some written on boardmod already. I will try to simplify it a little more, maybe tomorrow.

This is what I have so far.

What we require:
  • A good video
  • A select few screen shots
  • A simple explanation

Were not far off this at the present time, we have various video, Merv's text above and bundles of enthusiasm  Grin
Lets not forget everyone has a life as well as YaBB but we seem to be getting there  Wink

In the mod file... 252_fix_1d.mod

for Languages/English/Post.lng

Code:
<search for>
'draftleave' => 'Check this if you\'ll be to leave this message in Drafts folder after send',
</search for>

<replace>
'draftleave' => 'Check this if you are leaving this message in Drafts folder after sending'
</replace>

The highlighted comma is missing from the mod file when being replaced.

Edited:
Which, as you know, without it YaBB throws an error.

Holy cow!!! It worked.

I replaced:
Code:
<edit file>
default.css
</edit file>

with:
Code:
<edit file>
..\..\public_html\yabbfiles\Templates\Forum\default.css
</edit file>

Boardmod then made the edit to default.css without moving the file to the yabb2 folder.

Just maybe, there is hope for me after all.  Grin

and reposting here

hahahahahaha +1 me on that im like ho as on the docs for it it has
Quote - xnoddyx wrote on Yesterday at 22:54:41

<Edit file> Specifies a file which will be modified. The file path is always relative to the main script file (e.g. YaBB.pl)"

ok this has got me thinking on if it has more edit tags as well like <Copy file> and so on think i will have to do some testing with tags lol
